Great Falls Electric falls in double OT to the Seattle Super Hawks

GREAT FALLS, Mont., March 24, 2024 — Seattle Super Hawks forward Nazaiah Carter scored 31 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lift the Seattle Super Hawks to a 103-97 double overtime victory over the Great Falls Electric on Sunday afternoon inside the Bill R.W. Swarthout Fieldhouse on the campus of Great Falls High School. Great Falls’ Lyle Hexom scored 34 points on 11-for-20 shooting while teammate Sahmi Willoughby topped both teams with 14 rebounds.

Lyle Hexom helped Great Falls jump out to a 4-0 advantage three minutes into the first quarter. Mamadou Doucoure broke the drought for the Super Hawks (4-2) with seven minutes remaining. After a pair of free throws by Seattle, Hexom, and Antwaan Cushingberry each added a three-point field goals to increase the Electric’s lead to 14-6 with 3:29 on the clock. Nazaiah Carter made a driving layup to cut into the lead for the Super Hawks (17-8) at the end of the quarter.

Seattle’s offense woke up and went on an 11-2 run for their first lead, 20-19 early in the second stanza. Armond Davis, David Jenkins, Jr., Johnathan Ileleji and Mamadou Doucoure all successfully made field goals for the visitors. The Washington TBL team led 31-24 after two periods.

The third period belonged to the Electrics with Lamine Komara, Isaac Howard, Lyle Hexom, Antwaan Cushingberry, and Jacob Bates all scoring after halftime to bring Great Falls to within two points (54-52) at the end of the third frame.

Brandon Jamar had six of his nine points in the fourth quarter for the Electric. Both teams kept the game within reach but a basket by Seattle’s Nahziah Carter with 34 seconds left evened the contest at 78-78 and sent the tight contest into an overtime.

Great Falls and Seattle traded baskets throughout overtime. Antwaan Cushingberry put Great Falls ahead 91-88 with this basket from long distance with 33 seconds left and the crowd on their feet hoping to see their team get another win. David Jenkins Jr. made sure that the game would not end just yet as his three-pointer went through the net for the 91-91 tie as the first overtime expired.

Nahziah Carter and Nahshon George each made layups to give the Super Hawks a 95-91 advantage before Lyle Hexom’s layup to cut into the deficit. Seattle would pull away and lead by as many as seven (100-93) and Great Falls could not find a way to come back falling 103-97.

Seattle, now 5-3 on the season, had three players score over ten points including Nahziah Carter (31), Goodnews Kpegeol (20) and 15 points from David Jenkins, Jr. Mamadou Doucoure gathered 12 boards in the win.

Great Falls fell to 2-3 after two weeks of competition. Lyle Hexom poured in 34 points and pulled down 14 rebounds. Antwaan Cushingberry had a nice night with 20 points, 10 rebounds and six assists.

NEXT CONTEST: The Great Falls Electric will be back in action at home against the Emerald City (Eugene, Oregon) Jaguars for two games. The Swarthout Fieldhouse at Great Falls High School will be the venue for the Great Falls Electric’s game on Friday and Saturday, April 5-6 starting at 7:00PM (MST) each night.
